The fifth decade of 2002-2011

During the period 2002-2006, 138 research articles were published in internationally renowned journals. 48 Master and 14 doctoral students graduated. Since 2005 the Solomon Lefschetz Memorial Lecture Series in honor of Prof. Solomon Lefschetz had been consolidated. The event took place every fall and was given by a mathematician of great international prestige. In 2005, the José Adem Memorial Lecture Series was established in honor of Prof. José Adem-annual lectures given by internationally recognized young researchers in mathematics. Since 2006, in collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences of the USA, the NAS-Cinvestav Lectures have been organized, consisting of a series of lectures given annually by three distinguished American mathematicians.

In 2006, the Queretaro branch of the Department of Mathematics was created at the Cinvestav-Querétaro campus. Currently the Querétaro headquarters has 4 researchers and 10 students. In 2010, the first two Master's students graduated, and in 2011 the first doctoral student from that campus was preparing to graduate.

Starting in 2005, there has been a sustained growth in the number of master's and doctoral students, as well as in the hiring of new researchers.

As of 2006, the Mathematics Department significantly generates own funds.

As of 2004, 15 new researchers were hired. 65 master's and 23 doctoral students graduated.

In 2008 the Lázaro Cárdenas Award was awarded to Dr. Onésimo Hernández-Lerma as well as the Scopus Award to Dr. Elías Micha. In 2009 Dr. Onésimo Hernández-Lerma won the Thomson Reuters Award and Dr. Ernesto Lupercio the S. Ramanujan Award. From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Isidoro Gitler served as President of the Mexican Mathematical Society.

As for 2011, the academic staff was made up of 28 researchers (27 holders and 1 Conacyt chair). Until 2011, there were 277 Master's degrees and 80 doctorates. The Master's and doctoral programs are among the best in Latin America and among the few with an International Level in the National Register of Quality Postgraduate Programs of Conacyt ("International Competency").
