Nov. 27 to Dec. 4, 2002.

ANNOUNCEMENT

January 18, 2002

Dear colleague,

It is a pleasure to announce that our next workshop ACCOTA'2002, Aspectos Combinatorios y Computacionales de Optimización, Topología y Álgebra (Combinatorial and computational Aspects of Optimization, Topology and Algebra) will be held November  27 to December 4, 2002, in the beautiful city of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México. As in earlier ACCOTA's, our aim is to bring together mathematicians interested in combinatorics computing, and their interactions. The Workshop's lectures and contributed papers, as well as the opportunity for informal mathematical discussion, have proved to be of great interest to participants in previous years.  Each discipline represented in the meeting can be of great use in each of the other disciplines, and the purpose of the Workshop is to increase the interaction among researchers in each of the fields represented.

As in ACCOTA' 95, ACCOTA '96, ACCOTA '98, and ACCOTA’ 2000 workshops, we are expecting internationally recognized mathematicians in the areas of combinatorics and computer science to participate in the workshop this year.  For this reason, we are very interested in the possibility of having you deliver a 50 or 25 minute research lecture and in taking part in research seminars.

For this Workshop, we hope to count with most of our previous participants, for whom we are asking confirmation: A. Alcántar, G. Araujo, D. Archdeacon, J. Arocha, M. Balinski, A. Bouchet, J. Bracho, G. Calvillo, C. Colbourn, M. Chari, J.A. De la Peña, S. Eliahou, G. Even, R. Faudree, H. Galeana, E. Garcia-Moreno, I. Gitler, L. Goddyn, M. Goemans, R. Gould, P. Hell, M. Herlihy, F. Jaeger, H.A. Juárez, G. Karolyi, B. Korte, G. Kortsarz, F. Larrion, I. Lopez, R. Lopez-Bracho, J. Loyola, W. Mader, J. Martinez-Bernal, A. Menezes, C. Merino, B. Mohar, L. Montejano, J.J. Montellano, G. Morales-Luna, U.S.R. Murty, D. Naddef, J. Nesetril, V. Neumann-Lara, M. Noy, B. Oporowski, J. Pach, D. Peleg, S. Provan, S. Rajsbaum, J. Ramírez-Alfonsin, P. Revuelta, E. Rivera, N. Truemper, J. Urrutia, E. Vallejo, L. Verde, D. Vertigan,R. Villarreal, G. Whittle, P. Wiederhold, F. Zaragoza.

We are also extending invitations to other colleagues and will notify their participation once confirmed.

The program is planned to include 44 talks. Because of the limited number of time slots, we would greatly appreciate if you would let us know whether or not you intend to participate before July 15, 2002.  To do so please fill out the attached form and submit it, or, if you prefer post or fax to the address indicated below.

Participants who wish to give a talk (50 minutes or 25 minutes) are asked to submit in the attached form a title and a short abstract of their talk.

Because of budget cuts and restraints in our scientific programs we can only promise to make our best effort to cover a part of the travel expenses or hotel expenses for exceptional requests. We can only cover a very small number of expense petitions.

The members of the organizing committee are: Gilberto Calvillo (INEGI), Isidoro Gitler (CINVESTAV-IPN), José Martínez-Bernal (CINVESTAV-IPN), Víctor Neuman-Lara (IMATE-UNAM), David Romero (IMATE-Cuernavaca), Feliú Sagols (CINVESTAV-IPN), Gelasio Salazar (IICO-UASLP) and Rafael Villarreal (CINVESTAV-IPN).

Supporting Committee: Adrián Alcantar, Enrique García-Moreno, Isaías López, Oscar Méndez, Guadalupe Rodríguez, Irasema Sarmiento, Francisco Zaragoza.

Sponsors: Departamento de Matemáticas CINVESTAV-IPN, CINVESTAV-IPN, INEGI, IMATE-UNAM.

A second announcement will be sent in May to all who intend to participate and have let us known so.  All relevant information (final program, hotels and reservations, transportation, etc.) will be available at the Internet address given below.
